Symptoms of Sciatica Nerve Pain

  • Sharp Electric Shock Pain

  • Tingling

  • Numbness

  • Burning Sensations

  • Legs and feet are weak

  • Muscle Spasms

These types of pain can go from your lower (lumbar) spine to the buttocks and one or both legs. The pain can sometimes be manageable but more often it can be excruciating. Some of these motions can cause the pain to be active: sitting or standing for long periods, jerking motions, i.e., sneezing, laughing, coughing, bending backwards. If you leave this pain untreated you are risking a pinched nerve from a herniated disc, bone spur on the spine or spinal stenosis. Also diabetes can damage the sciatica nerve.

Causes of Sciatica Nerve Pain

  • Age

  • Being obese.

  • Your job – especially if it entails twisting your back, carrying heavy loads, or driving a motor vehicle for long periods of time.

  • Sitting too long or if you have an inactive lifestyle.

  • Diabetes

Sciatica Complications

If left untreated you could possibly cause permanent nerve damage. You need to seek immediate medical attention if you experience: loss of feeling in the affected leg; weakness in the affected leg; loss of bowel or bladder control.
