What Causes of Neck Pain?
What Causes Neck Pain?
The causes of neck pain are:
- Muscle Strains – Muscle strains can be as simple as overuse of the neck. For example, bending over a computer, iPad, iPhone, android, etc.; reading in bed or laying on a couch with your head resting on the arm rest.
- Degenerated Joints – As you age, the joints in your neck tend to wear down. The cartilage that is between the vertebrae will deteriorate if you have osteoarthritis.
- Nerve Compression – When pressure is put directly on a nerve that will cause nerve compression. Not only does frequent external or continued force cause nerve compression, internal conditions can cause it too. Some internal conditions that could cause nerve compression could be cysts, tumors, hematomas and entrapment neuropathy, which your own body could cause.
- Poor Posture – Weak muscles and unusual pressure on joints, discs, and nerves can cause stress and pain in the neck.
- Sleeping Wrong – Sleeping with your head or neck in an unnatural position can cause a “crick” in the neck, which is clearly painful and uncomfortable, normally it resolves itself within a few days.
- Personal Injuries – Injuries such as tripping, slips and falls, or bumping your head
- Auto accidents injuries
- Text neck – due to overuse of mobile devices – phones, ipads, laptop computers, etc.
- Psychological Stress – If you are in a very stressful situation this can lead to all types of physical conditions because you are unknowingly tensing your neck muscles that can lead to neck soreness and headaches.
- Diseases – You can have neck pain from diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, meningitis and some cancers.
- Aging – As you get older your body weakens and starts to break down. This includes the spine. The elderly commonly suffer from degenerative disorder.
